The best consumer grade machine of its type
For years, I used a Memorex Optifix, which this greatly resembles...but, one night I accidentally plugged the wrong power supply in, and it fried. But Memorex stopped making them years ago, and their competitor's machine leaves ugly marks behind, even though it does, mostly, work...and has to be entirely replaced on a regular basis. A few weeks ago, I don't recall what I was looking for, but I stumbled across this excellent little machine. I'm not entirely pleased with the results from the cleaning cycle, as it leaves a lot of moisture behind on the disc, which requires quick and careful wiping off, before you can proceed with any further steps. Aside from that minor complaint, I find that the buffing cycle works very, very much like the Optifix did, which is what most discs will need. The repair pads are amazing! The Optifix didn't have anything like it at all, and the only machines I'm aware of, besides this, that can do such a thing....are professional resurfacers that cost hundreds to buy. My son has been taking his discs (if they need it enough) to some shop in town that charges $1 per disc. If the supplies last as long as the documentation claims, and the refill kits remain at their current price, then I'm still paying about that per disc--but I don't have to drag them across town, or wait until the business is open, or whatever....which still makes this the better deal. The one thing that I'm not so pleased about is almost certainly not something they can do anything about. This machine is not intended to repair a Blu-Ray disc...or they would at least *mention* the subject in the manual. The discs are made differently from CDs and DVDs, even though they look similar, and are the same size and shape. They also have a coating on the surface, which you don't want to mess with...at least, not if you have any brains. None of my BDs have been damaged enough to risk trying to fix them, and I hope it stays that way....but, if I end up with a BD that won't otherwise play, I'll try this machine on it, and come back with the results. If you, like me, can't afford a professional resurfacer, this will do until you can.
A great product
I’ve tried the cheaper cd cleaners before to no avail. Discs that I thought were ready for the garbage were brought back to life. Definitely worth the extra money. I give it my highest recommendation!!
